John Wick fans will have to wait a while longer to see the spinoff movie Ballerina, as its release has been delayed.

Lionsgate's John Wick spinoff Ballerina, featuring Ana de Armas, will see a one-year delay, moving from its original release date of June 7, 2024, to June 6, 2025. The decision comes as Chad Stahelski, the architect behind the John Wick franchise, signs a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the series. Stahelski, along with Ballerina director Len Wiseman, is working on integrating extra action sequences into the film to enhance its intensity even further.

The Crow: Cast, Story & Everything We Know About The 2024 Bill Skarsgård Reboot

With Rupert Sanders' remake of The Crow taking over Ballerina's original summer release date of June 7 this year, exhibition venues need not fret. Filming for The Crow remake wrapped up in 2022 under Sanders' direction. The film stars Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs in lead roles, with Isabella Wei, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger also featuring in prominent roles.

In the upcoming movie Ballerina, Ana de Armas takes on the role of a young female assassin on a quest for revenge against those who murdered her family. The film's storyline unfolds between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, though further plot details remain undisclosed.

In Ballerina, Keanu Reeves' Wick character has a supporting role, but whether he's an ally or foe of Rooney is unclear. This could symbolize Reeves passing the torch to de Armas or endorsing the spinoff. Time will tell if audiences embrace Rooney as they did Wick, given that John Wick thrived due to Reeves' charisma and fight scenes.

Ballerina: Ana De Armas In Talks To Lead John Wick Spinoff Movie

Ana de Armas, known for her action skills in No Time to Die, deserves her own franchise. Ballerina can build on the groundwork of previous films and branch out with future sequels. Whether viewers prefer Ballerina over John Wick sequels remains uncertain, but Lionsgate is committed to giving the spinoff its best chance.

The Crow is set to be released on June 7, 2024, while Ballerina is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025.
