The MPA rating for Matthew Vaughn's upcoming film, Argylle, has been unveiled, and fans of the director's recent works might find it to be a surprising twist.

When Argylle was announced in June 2021, it was initially conveyed that the movie was an adaptation of an upcoming novel titled "Argylle" authored by a newcomer, Elly Conway. However, the first trailer for Argylle unveiled a twist—Elly Conway turned out to be a fictional character specially crafted for the film. The actual novel is set to be released by Penguin Random House in January 2024 as a tie-in to the movie. In Argylle, Bryce Dallas Howard is set to portray Elly Conway, described as "the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie."

The inspiration for Argylle stemmed from James Bond.

Renowned for his portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman in the DC Extended Universe, Henry Cavill is set to embody the central super spy character in Argylle. Despite limited details about Agent Argylle, Vaughn describes the character as "a blend of Bond, Ivan Drago from Rocky 4, and a dash of Superman spice." Nevertheless, viewers should anticipate a departure from the typical Bond archetype, as Vaughn discloses that the forthcoming film aims to defy audience expectations.

"In October 2023, I mentioned that I'm guilty of featuring dashing spies with impeccable haircuts and exquisitely tailored suits. In reality, if you're a spy, it's not the smartest move," Vaughn emphasized. "You become the person who stands out in the crowd. A proficient spy should be the one you least expect. That's the essence of this movie. As Roger Moore once noted about James Bond—what kind of spy enters a room, and everyone knows his name and drink preference? It's absurd. We're having a blast dismantling these clichés."

Argylle is set to hit theaters on Feb. 2, 2024, with an Apple TV+ release scheduled for an undisclosed later date.
