Despite the previous Matrix film serving as a cautionary tale about corporations exploiting subversive intellectual property, Warner Bros. Discovery is revisiting the franchise.

According to Deadline, Drew Goddard, known for his work on The Martian, has been selected to write and direct another Matrix movie, with Lana Wachowski serving as executive producer. As of now, the film lacks a title or projected release date, and it remains uncertain if franchise stars like Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, or Jessica Henwick will reprise their roles.

Warner Bros. Motion Pictures production head Jesse Ehrman stated that Goddard approached the studio with a new concept for the franchise's continuation, aiming to pay homage to "what Lana and Lilly [Wachowski] started over 25 years ago" while offering a fresh perspective influenced by his own passion for the series and its characters.

Goddard expressed, "The Matrix films profoundly impacted both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly's exceptional artistry continues to inspire me daily, and I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute stories within their universe."
