Spider-Man turns Orchis' deadliest weapon into a benefit for both humanity and mutantkind, aiding the X-Men in the process.
While Nightcrawler and Kate Pryde tend to an ailing Synch in X-Men #31, Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel have a crucial mission of their own. They coordinate from atop the Oscorp building in New York City, overseeing the trajectory of the High Evolutionary's bio-bomb as it travels across the skyline. Instead of dispersing gene-altering substances or harmful chemicals as intended, the bio-bomb has been modified to distribute a cure for the damage caused by Orchis' manipulation of Krakoan medicines relied upon by thousands of humans worldwide.
Krakoan medicines were a significant breakthrough and export for the mutant nation. Developed from Krakoa's distinctive mutant flora, these medicines were distributed globally to thousands, if not millions, of people. Among them was Mary Jane Watson's aunt Anna, whose experience with the medicines was profoundly positive until Orchis' tampering with the same drugs came to light.
By manipulating the Krakoan medicines, Orchis transformed ordinary individuals into aggressive, violent versions of themselves. This created the illusion that mutants had contaminated their own drugs to disrupt human society worldwide, potentially serving as Orchis' most destructive form of anti-mutant propaganda.
First introduced in Thor #134 in 1966 by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the High Evolutionary was originally known as the ordinary scientist Herbert Wyndham. His fixation on genetic perfection led him to create a serum that transformed him into the villainous High Evolutionary, granting him various superhuman powers. While not prominently featured in Fall of X, the High Evolutionary became the target of Synch and the original Laura Kinney (now Talon), who sought to recruit him in the fight against Orchis. However, instead of joining their cause, the High Evolutionary obliterated Talon's body, leaving only her consciousness within Synch's mind.
