Daisy Ridley is rumored to have landed a substantial payment for returning as Rey Skywalker in an upcoming Star Wars film set in a distant galaxy.
As per a report by insider Jeff Sneider (via X), Daisy Ridley is expected to earn $12.5 million for her role in the next Star Wars film. This movie will continue Rey's story 15 years after the events of 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Although specific details about the plot are limited, it seems that the film will focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. In this narrative, Rey will take on a mentorship role, akin to the ones played by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker in the original and sequel trilogies, respectively.
Daisy Ridley Explains Why She's Returning to Star Wars
The next Star Wars film, featuring Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey, was officially confirmed by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration 2023. In a recent interview, Ridley shared how Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy convinced her to return as the beloved character. Ridley explained that Kennedy invited her to "have breakfast," during which Kennedy casually mentioned the idea of doing "another one."
After being pitched the story, Ridley took some time to consider it. She explained, "I thought about it for a little bit, and once I knew the story and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do." According to her, the upcoming film offers a fantastic exploration of the Star Wars universe and takes the story in a cool and different direction.
Star Wars is Making a Return To The Big Screen
Daisy Ridley's Star Wars film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is among the upcoming features scheduled to release in theaters over the next decade. Another highly anticipated Star Wars movie in the works is "The Mandalorian & Grogu," a feature-length spinoff of the popular Disney+ series. Lucasfilm revealed this project in January 2024, with Jon Favreau set to direct.
Additional Star Wars projects are in development, including James Mangold's upcoming film exploring the origins of The Force during the Dawn of the Jedi era. This movie, set roughly 25,000 years before the events of the original 1977 Star Wars film, will be both written and directed by Mangold. Dave Filoni is also set to direct a feature-length film set in the New Republic era, concluding storylines initiated in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and the upcoming Skeleton Crew.
